Auto Marine Cables Recognised at the Northern Automotive Alliance Awards 2015

The Northern Automotive Alliance Awards took place in Cheshire on 12th November this year to an audience of 300 members from the northern and national automotive community. The awards showcase the strength of the manufacturing base in the Northern Powerhouse and this year also marked the expansion of the Northwest Automotive Alliance to the Northern Automotive Alliance. The core area covered by the NAA now includes the whole of the M62 corridor, ensuring all automotive companies within the Northern Powerhouse have access to a local network.

Auto Marine Cables were extremely honoured to receive the overall NAA Company of the Year Award and the Business Excellence Project of the Year Award at this year’s ceremony, a clear demonstration that the automotive industry in the Northern Powerhouse area is making a significant and growing contribution to the regional and national economy.

Auto Marine Cables won the Business Excellence Project of the Year Award for the success we have achieved from introducing a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) system, resulting in increased efficiency and productivity.  We developed a deployment plan spread over 6 months, using selected equipment as a pilot program, which included developing the systems & structures required across our factory.  In addition we included an introduction & education of TPM to the employees working in the sections where the programme was to be introduced.  To ensure the program was fully embedded into our factory, two shop floor champions were selected to assist and form part of the steering group.

For Auto Marine the T in TPM means Total, which meant total involvement of the shop floor in our TPM journey. Working with the TPM Pillars of focused improvement (FI), autonomous maintenance (AM) and planned maintenance (PM) the team really applied themselves, not only realising OEE improvements but also discovering a depth of hidden talents. The team have learnt through practical application how to improve production efficiency to support our ‘on-time in full’ objective.

Commenting on receiving the awards, Peter Hammond our Managing Director said “We’re delighted to have won the Northern Automotive Alliance Business Excellence and Company of the Year Awards. We’ve been on a journey of continuous improvement for a number of years, with a particular focus on lean manufacturing. The NAA has provided support in a range of areas, helping us to become more efficient and achieve profitable growth – an excellent example of how the NAA provides cost-effective assistance to automotive businesses.”

We would like to thank all our customers for your continued support and help in winning these awards, it’s thanks to you that we are able to continue to strive for excellence in manufacturing and deliver the best service and products.
